Slightly Agravated

At 4:15 Friday afternoon we got an email from our loan officer saying that we needed to get verbal verification from our employer. Um what? We close Monday morning.

Trying to get any information from an organization on a Friday afternoon, after 4 PM, is going to be almost impossible. My husbands HR department had already left for the day and my HR department had already left for the day. Fortunately, I was able to get a hold of my direct supervisor to have him call our LO to verify my employment but since noone from my Husbands office was in we're potentially brickwalled from closing on Monday because of a verbal verification.

The crazy thing is my husband's company is under the same contract that my company owns, so they have proof that he does work for the contract. This was brought up but was dismissed. My husband had emailed and called them a couple times on Thursday (when we finally got our final loan approval) verifying that we were clear to close. So to say we were upset when this last minute silliness came up is an understatement. Oh and we just sent them our last pay stubs recently as well.

Has anyone else had this happen? Is verbal verification of employment the norm for purchasing a house? This is our fist house so we wouldn't know. But hopefully all goes well and we get this craziness behind us and close on Monday.

  1. Rachel and tommy, that is just not right. It's seems as if NVR enjoys stressing future homeowners with their ridiculous last minute scrambling. My wife an I thankfully went with a different mortgage company and have had absolutely no issues whatsoever, if anything they have been very reassuring. Congrats on your closing on Monday, you both must be very excited for sure. We wish you two a wonderful life in your new home together. Ps. We are excited about our close a week from Tuesday.

  2. Our experience has been horrible as well... lots of scrambling for paperwork however I am surprised that they asked after the clear to close. You'll breath easier after you get the keys.

  3. I'd contact your sales rep if you're using NVR. They (the loan officer / underwriter) should have done the verbal confirmation themselves before giving you the all clear.

  5. Again, another bad post about NVR, I am so very sorry for your stressful sitation, from what I have heard about NVR you can expect anything!! I am considering Dollar Bank and losing the NVR 3500 incentive just to have some peace of mind, I have yet to find anyone who has had a nice experience with NVR.....Currently I have asked many questions, but still no real answers in 20 days........20 days!!!

I would have to say if I was in your shoes I would be calling everyone up to the President of NVR is that is what it took........ that is just unacceptable business....but NVR has help up to their reputation thus far, again so sorry for your stress.......but at this point all you can do is struggle and get it done and fill out that NVR survey when you are done.......keep us updated...

  6. Did they do a verification when you originally applied for your loan before construction or is this the first check? They sent forms to our companies in the beginning... I didn't even think about the fact that they may check again closer to settlement to make sure we're still employed. I'm going to ask my LO about that tomorrow. Thanks for sharing!

  8. They didn't call for a verbal employment verification for me until AFTER I closed and had the keys in hand. Go figure. I"m sure they got you to closing today anyway.

  9. I've had issues with NVR and we don't break ground til next week. They don't contact you for info in a timely manner. I got an email at 9 pm one night asking for documentation. The loan officer got a real nasty email from me and continues to. I ask for everything by email b/c the tell you anything in person/phone and deny it later
